The Paper Players - Jaydee's Sketch

Jaydee has a sketch challenge this week at The Paper Players challenge.

I have used a colour scheme of Midnight Muse and Whisper White with Silver Glimmer Paper edging the sides of the Midnight Muse DSP.  I used and bit of artistic licence with the sketch and added Rhinestones to the arch bases on the Silver Glimmer Paper.  The sentiment is from the Christmas Lodge stamp set.

WOOHOO Top 3 & A Cut Above

WOOHOO, my card was selected in the Top 3 at the Create with Connie and Mary Challenge 227 this week and also selected for A Cut Above at The Paper Players Challenge 122.

The Need for Speed

I created the background paper for this card by stamping the Distressed Dots stamp set in Basic Black on Crumb Cake cardstock.  I thought that this would be in keeping with the circle theme at Mojo Monday this week based on this sketch.

I really liked the sketch this week with all the circles, and who said you could not put ribbon on masculine cards, not me.  The Basic Black Scalloped Dot ribbon went perfect with the theme as well as it has the dots on it.

The background behind the quad bike is from the Clockworks stamp set and was stamped with Crumb Cake on Whisper White.  The quad bike from the Need for Speed stamp set was then stamped in Basic Black over the top.

Naturally the sentiment had to be a circle as well in keeping with the theme of the card, and this is from the Petite Pairs stamp set.

Colour scheme of Basic Black, Whisper White and Crumb Cake with the DSP from the Neutrals DSP Stack.

It's Christmas in the Heart

It is Flag It time at the  Merry Monday Challenge this week based on this sketch.

Using the Heart of Christmas stamp set and the Candlelight Christmas Specialty DSP with a colour scheme of Early Espresso, Real Red and Very Vanilla this is the card I have created.

The snowflake is made using the Snow Flurry Bigz Die and Champagne Glimmer Paper with the sentiment cut out using the Apothecary Accents Framelits.

The Very Vanilla was embossed using the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder.  This sketch is great as you can make a christmas card in no time at all.  The sketch is easy to adapt for whatever type of card that you are wishing to make.

I received an Honourable Mention for my card which I am quite chuffed with.

Snowman

The challenge this week at Dynamic Duos is to use the colours of Marina Mist and Basic Black with a Dessert Option of a Snowman Theme.

Would you believe that the only Snowman stamp I had in my stash was from the Jolly Bingo Bits stamp set.  He was so tiny that he got lost on the all the card ideas I came up with.  As a last resort I stamped him three times and punched him out using the 1" circle punch and the made co-ordinating 1 1/4" scalloped circles in the colours of the challenge and layered them on the card.

The sentiment is from the Teeny Tiny Sentiment stamp set.

Pretty In Pink

PPA147 Nov 15 2012
The challenge this week at Pals Paper Arts is based on this sketch.

Pink and white are so pretty together.  I have team them up with the Stippled Blossoms stamp set and created this pretty card for the challenge.

DSP is the Pink Pirouette from the Subtles Designer Series Paper Stack.  Cardstock is Pink Pirouette and Whisper White and the ink is from the Classic Stampin' Ink Pads Pink Pirouette, Pretty in Pink, Old Olive and Basic Black.

The sentiment is from the Petite Pairs stamp set, which was stamped on  a doily from the Delicate Doilies Sizzlits.  Embossing folders used are Perfect Polka Dots and Fancy Fan with Whisper White Organza ribbon as a finishing touch.

Come to Bethlehem

Using the Framelits Window Frames Collection I have made an easel card of a different shape.  This idea I got from Narelle Farrugia whose work I absolutely adore, with all the layers and elements on her cards.

2012 Create Thursday-007At Create with Connie & Mary this week, the challenge is to make a shaped card using framelits or dies and also to use this sketch.

The colour scheme I have used is Basic Black, Whisper White and Champagne Glimmer Paper as the challenge at The Paper Players this week is to add some glam and glitz by featuring gold or silver on our creations, so I have combined the two challenges to make my card.

The Champagne Glimmer Paper is the gold and the glam is a Rhinestone added to the star.

The stamp sets used are Come to Bethlehem, Christmas Wishes and Teeny Tiny Sentiments.

The colour scheme is not the norm for Christmas, but a liked the finished result.

Howdy Partner

Have you ever seen a stamp set and you just have to have it, but when you get it you do not use it?  Well this applies to me with the "Horse Frontier" stamp set from Stampin' Up.  I finally used it this week and created this cowboy themed card.  The coiled bakers twine is supposed to resemble a rope, not sure if it worked but it is now stuck to the card so I have gone with it.

The sentiment was made using the Simply Serif Mini Alphabet and the 1/2" circle punch and the small punch from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack.

Colour scheme of Early Espresso and Naturals Ivory.

Just Add Music

The challenge this week at Just Add Ink is to Just Add Music.

The inspiration for this Post-it Note & Calendar holder came from a post by Carolyn Lindenmayer where Carolyn made an easel card with the Calender on the top of the card and the Post-It Notes on the bottom of the card.  I really liked the idea and I have adapted it and made a Post-It Note holder.  I tried to make the front look like a satchel, but had a bit of trouble rounding the corners of the tiny pieces for the straps (I will have to work on this one).

The Music part of the challenge is incorporated in Natural Composition Specialty DSP, which has the music notes printed on it.  I love this DSP with the glossy raised pattern on the heavy weight Natural paper.

I made the title using the Simply Serif Mini Alphabet and the 1/2" circle punch and small circle punch from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack.

I put instructions on how I made it at the end of this post.

Materials

Crumb Cake Cardstock
Scraps of Early Espresso & Naturals Ivory Cardstock
Natural Composition Specialty DSP – Music Note Sheet
Neutrals DSP – Striped Crumb Cake piece
Early Espresso Core’dinations Cardstock
Designer Sanding Blocks
Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker
Crumb Cake Classic Stampin’ Pad
Early Espresso Classic Stampin’ Pad
Stamping Sponge
Simply Serif Mini Alphabet Stamp Set
½” Circle Punch
Small Punch from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack
Post-It Notes
Small Calendar
Buttons #5 Sizzlits
Sticky Strip
Multipurpose Liquid Glue

Instructions

1.         Cut a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock 6 ½” x 3”.  Score this on the long side at 3” and 3 ½”.  Fold on crease lines.  This creates the base Post-It Note cover.

2.         Cut a piece of Music Note paper 3” x 3”
Cut a piece of Crumb Cake  CS 3” x 1 ¼” – Round corners on one long edge
Cut a piece of Music Note paper 2 7/8 x 1 1/8” – Round corners on one long edge
Cut 2 pieces of Crumb Cake CS  5/8” x 2” – Round edges on one end
Cut 2 pieces of Music Note paper ½” x 1 7/8” – Round edges on one end
            Cut a piece of Striped Crumb Cake DSP 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”

3.         Ink the edges of all pieces by sponging Crumb Cake on edges.

4.         Adhere the 3” x 3” piece of Music Note paper to front of the Post-It Note cover.

5.         Adhere the  2 7/8” x 1 1/8” piece of Music Note paper to the 3” x 1 ¼” Crumb Cake cardstock, making sure that the top straight edges are flush so the border is only around the short sides and along the bottom of the piece with the rounded corners. This is the flap for the satchel.

6.         Adhere the ½” x 1 7/8” piece of Music Note paper to the 5/8” x 2” Crumb Cake cardstock, making sure that the straight edges at the top are flush so the border is only around the long sides and along the bottom of the piece with the rounded corners.  This creates the straps for the satchel.

7.         Using the Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker, create Faux Stitching around the cover piece, flap and straps.

8.         Adhere the flap to the top of the Post-In Note cover then adhere the straps.

9.         Create the buttons on the satchel straps by cutting 2 small buttons using the Buttons Sizzlit Die and the Early Espresso Core’dinations cardstock.  Lightly sand these with the sanding blocks to give them a distressed look.  Adhere these to the straps on the satchel.

10.       Create the Notes title by stamping NOTES on Naturals Ivory cardstock with the Early Espresso and the Simply Serif Mini Alphabet stamp set.  Punch the letters out using the small circle punch from the Itty Bitty Shape Punch Pack.  Punch out small circles from Early Espresso cardstock using the ½” Circle Punch.  Ink the letters lightly with Crumb Cake and adhere to the Early Espresso circles.  Adhere to the bottom of the Post-It Note cover.

11.       Adhere the piece of striped Crumb Cake DSP to the inside of the Post-It Note cover, making sure that you put it on the top cover and not the bottom.  Adhere the calendar to the centre of this piece.

12.       Adhere the Post-It Notes to the inside bottom cover and you now have your completed Satchel Post-It Note cover.

Ho, Ho & Ho

No stamping, paper or card involved in this post, just lots of stitching.

Using the Stampin' Up Candelight Christmas Designer Fabric in the current Holiday Catalogue I have made these cute little guys that fold out to a Christmas Swag.

The pattern I used is one that I have had for 12 years and is a Mum's Moment pattern.  Unfortunately this great little patchwork store that was in Brisbane has closed down, so I am not sure if you can still purchase the pattern.

Postage Due Coasters

The "Postage Due" stamp set is a great collage stamp and I really like the finished effect to create these rustic coasters.

I have stamped the image using Staz-on Jet Black onto some stone tiles that I purchased from my local Bunnings store.  The stone tiles do have holes in them but I really love the rustic effect that this gives the finished coaster.  The finished coasters are 4" x 4".

I sealed the stone tiles with Mod Podge before stamping the image and then put two coats of Mod Podge over the top to seal it.  An acrylic sealer can also be added if desired.  A piece of cork was adhered to the bottom of the tile.

Midnight Floral Fusion

This card was just for the fun of it and it is a case of a similar card I found a while ago. Unfortunately I did not keep the name of the creative person who designed the sketch, so I must apologise.  The original card was not made using Stampin' Up products, I have adapted the sketch for my card.  The colour scheme is Midnight Muse, Baja Breeze and Very Vanilla with the flowers being made using the Floral Fusions die.

Coloured Soot Stamping

I have been inspired to try the Coloured Stoot Stamping technique as a result of recent posts by Jenny Chilton and France Martin.  This technique is by Beate Johns and can be found on Splitcoast Stampers here.

I made two cards using this technique, the first one was inspired by France Martin who used one of my favourite stamp sets "Clockworks".  Colour scheme of Basic Black, Sahara Sand and Whisper White.

Second card was made using the "Postage Due" stamp set with a colour scheme of Summer Starfruit and Basic Black.

Luggage Tags

I have been playing around this last week with the new Candelight Christmas Designer Fabric featured in the new Holiday Catalogue.

I really liked the idea of an unique luggage tags to identify my suitcases when I am travelling.  I designed the following luggage tag as all the other patterns and designs I found on the internet were quite involved and I wanted something that was quick to run up on the sewing machine and did not involve interfacing and wadding.  I have posted the instructions on how I made this at the bottom of this post.

Now that I have created my luggage tags all I need now is the holiday to go with them.

LUGGAGE TAG

Materials

1 fat quarter
Window Sheet
On-Board Sheet

Instructions

1.         Cut 1 piece 3 ¼” x 5 ¼” – put to one side.

2.         Cut a strip 1 ¾” wide by length of fabric.   Cut a piece of Window Sheet 2” x 4”.  Stitch the fabric around the Window Sheet, using a ¼” seam allowance.

3.         Trim down strips around the Window Sheet to 1” wide.

4.         Cut a piece of 3 ½” x 2” piece of fabric.  Turn under ¼” on long side and press, turn under another ¼” and stitch down.  Attach this piece to one short side of the Window Sheet piece (front piece).

5.         Cut a strip of fabric 13 ½” x 2”.  Fold in ¼” on each side and press.  Fold in half lengthwise so that the raw edges are now folded into the middle of the fabric,  press.  Stitch down each side of the strip.   This is the tab strip.

6.         On the backing piece, turn under a 1/4" double hem and stitch down.

7.         Lay the back piece down, right side facing up.  Put the tab strip down, making sure that the tab is on the inside.  Put the front piece down, right side facing down making sure that the end with the overlap is at the other end to the tab strip.  Stitch down both long sides and across the end with the tab strip on it.

8.         Turn correct side out, press lightly with a warm iron being careful not to melt the Window Sheet.  This is the back view of the tag.

9.         Using the On-Board Sheet, cut a piece 1 ¼” x 4 ¾” for the insert.

10.       Make a name and address information on the computer for the luggage tag.

Name ______________________________________

Address ____________________________________

____________________________________________

____________________________________________

Print the name and address information and glue to the On-Board Sheet.  Insert this into the Luggage Tag, making sure that the piece is behind the over flap so that it does not come loose. The luggage tag is now finished.

Happy Birthday - Stippled Blossoms

This card was a quick make for my Aunty's Birthday card.   My Mum and myself were off to my Aunty's today for her birthday, and a realised that I had forgot to make a card.

I went straight to one of my favourite sketches for the design and the Stippled Blossoms stamp set with the sentiment from the Petite Pairs stamp set.  Colour scheme of Primrose Petals and Whisper White.  The DSP is from the Neutrals Designer Series Paper stack.

I was quite pleased with the finished card, it looked so pretty and my Aunty loved it.

Cherish Friendshp

This card was inspired by a recent post by Paula Dobson, using the Water Colour Wash technique with the Clear-Mount Blocks.  Paula used the Fabulous Florets stamp set on her card, but I changed things up a bit for my card using the Cherish Friendship stamp set.

Colour scheme of Whisper White, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, More Mustard and So Saffron.

I seem to be adding tickets to everything lately, but I like the finished touch (each to their own as they say). I gave instructions in my previous post on how this was done. The button is from the Naturals Designer Buttons pack, which have a lovely wood like finish.  Early Espresso Bakers Twine was added to finish the card.

The goose was stamped in Early Espresso on a piece of Water Coloured card that was made using More Mustard and So Saffron.  It was then fussy cut out and adhered to the card.

The card was quite simple to make and what a great effect the Water Colour Wash Technique creates.

Christmas Lodge

It has been a few weeks since my last post, I have been making cards but just not posting.  I have also been creating craft items for an upcoming Christmas Market Day that I attend in Moora each year, so I have been busy stitching for that as well.

I recently purchased the Crumb Cake medium envelopes from Stampin' Up and Crumb Cake being a favourite colour of mine I decided to make a Christmas card using it as the base card to go with the envelopes.  I am going to make sets of these for the Christmas Market Day.

I had a lot of false starts before I created this card and with the medium envelope being slightly smaller that the average C6 size I had a few issues with my measurements until I got it correct (I was having one of those days).

The stamp sets used are Christmas Lodge, Petite Pairs and the Take a Ticket Stampin' Wheel.

The Christmas Lodge was stamped with Staz On Black and the snow was coloured using the White Gel Pen.  The border was stamped using the small leaf stamp in the Christmas Lodge stamp set.

The ticket was made by colouring in the outline of one of the tickets on the Take A Ticket Stampin' Wheel  with a Crumb Cake Stampin' Write Marker and rolling this onto Whisper White cardstock.  The sentiment, from the Petite Pairs stamp set, was then stamped in the middle of the ticket and the ticket then cut out.

Once the centre piece had been finished, Whisper White Bakers Twine was wrapped around the piece before it was adhered to the card using dimensionals.  The ticket was also layered up with dimenionals and a button from the Neutrals Designer Button added with a piece of Whisper White Bakers Twine tied through the holes.  The button was adhered using a glue dot.

The measurements for the card are:

Crumb Cake - 14cm x 21cm, folded in half to create the base card.
Whisper White - 13.5cm x 10cm, embossed with the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing folder.
Crumb Cake - 10.5cm x 7.5cm.
Whisper White - 10cm x 7cm.
Crumb Cake - 9.5cm x 6.5cm, image stamped on this piece.
