Bits-n-Pieces

Hi everyone, I have been making cards today using up some of my Bits-n-Pieces (these seem to have been growing at a great rate lately, so I must use them up).   I was inspired to do this using this week's sketch challenge at Retro Sketches.

This is the card I made using my Bits-n-Pieces from the Modern Medley DSP and Neutrals DSP Paper Stack.  It is amazing how far these strips and off cuts go.  I inked over some of the DSP using Baked Brown Sugar to give the Brown, Black and Cream colour theme that I was after.

While I was on a roll I also made another two cards using up my Bits-n-Pieces.  It was like doing patchwork but with paper and card, what fun.  This one was made using 1 1/4" squares mounted on 1 3/8" squares, then placed on the diagonal.

I used the new Alphabet Rotary stamp to create the sentiment on the last card.  I can see me using this a lot to create titles for my cards and also for scrapbook pages, the ideas are endless.

Calendar Block

Hi everyone, I would like to share with you a Calendar Block I made using the new "Lullaby" DSP available in the 2014-15 Catalogue from 1 July 2014 and the Project Life Day to Day stamp set and Project Life Cards & Labels Framelits Dies which are available to order now.  The colour scheme is Baked Brown Sugar, Coastal Cabana and Whisper White.  I have also used the 2013-14 In-colour Paper Stack and inked all the edges of every piece with Baked Brown Sugar.

I saw a similar project recently (not using the Project Life stamp sets and die) however I have adapted it to make the numbers magnetic and positioned on the outside of the box and changed the shape of the box.  I used Coaster Board as I thought that it would be more sturdy and durable, as there is no year on the calendar hopefully it will last for a few years.  Another idea I had after I made it, was to create a list of the days of the month to be put on the back of the Month pages to create a Birthday Book on the calendar as well.  I did not get around to do this, but I thought it would add to the project and make a lovely gift for someone special.

I started with a piece of Baked Brown Sugar cardstock 6" x 8 3/4", scored 2 1/4" on all sides.  On the long edge cut on the 2 1/4" score line to the other 2 1/4" score line running the length of the cardstock.  Cut away small wedges as this makes creating the box easier.  Fold all the score lines.  Your cardstock piece should look like the picture below.

Put glue on the outside of the tabs and fold up to create the box.  This is just a basic box creation.  Cut a piece of DSP and adhered this to the outside of the box, easing around the edges of the side of the box.  Cut another strip of co-ordinating DSP and punch a scalloped edge using the Scallop Edge Border Punch.  Adhere this to the top of the DSP on the outside of the box to decorate.

I put two 12mm x 1mm disc magnets on the inside of the box and covered these with self adhesive spot plasters and then put a piece of DSP 2" x 4" over the top to keep them in place.  The magnets and self adhesive spot plasters are available from Aussie Magnets.

For the month pages cut Coaster Board 4" x 5", you will need 12 of these.  I did try double siding these, but the box base was too narrow for the height of the calendar block and kept tipping over, so 12 pieces it is.  The DPS is 3 3/4" x 4 3/4", I have used 2 sheets of Baked Brown Sugar from the 2013-14 In-colour Paper Stack.  I made all the month pages the same design but you can mix it up, it is your choice.

I stamped the months from the Project Life Day to Day Stamp Set in Baked Brown Sugar ink on Whisper White cardstock and cut out using the Project Life Cards & Labels Framelits Dies and adhered to the top of the page, make sure that you do not put them too low as you will not be able to read them over the day of the week piece.  The small flower was punched out using the Petite Petals Punch and Coastal Cabana DSP from the 2013-14 In-colour Paper Stack.  A rhinestone was added to the middle.

For the day of the week pages cut 7 pieces of Coaster Board 4" x 3 3/4".  The DSP is from the new "Lullaby" DSP pack, I selected three of the sheets that matched my colour scheme, bringing into the project a hint of Hello Honey and Pistachio Pudding.  You will need 7 pieces 3 3/4" x 3 1/2".

The days of the week are from the Project Life Day to Day Stamp Set and are stamped with Baked Brown Sugar ink on Whisper White cardstock and cut out using the Project Life Cards & Labels Framelits Dies.  These are adhered to the top of the page, just make sure that you can read the days over the edge of the box.

The number pieces are made using Coaster Board 2" x 2", you will need 12 pieces.  These can be made from the off cuts of Coaster Board.

Cut the numbers out using the Typeset Alphabet Bigz die and Baked Brown Sugar cardstock.  You will need numbers 0-9 and an extra number 1 and 2.  Adhere the numbers to the middle of the Coaster Board 2" pieces.  Centre a small 6mm x 2mm disc magnet, also available from Aussie Magnets, on the back of the Coaster Board with a Self Adhesive Spot Plaster and cover with a piece of DPS 1 3/4" x 1 3/4".

The extra numbers are stored in the box, changing the date daily.

Blendabilities #2

I have been playing with the Blendabilities and have coloured some flowers made with Whisper White cardstock and the Pansy and Petite Petals punches.

I have made my card based on this week's sketch challenge at the Deconstructed Sketch.

Deconstructed Sketch 154
I have used the "Moonlight" DSP in the 2014-15 Catalogue along with Sahara Sand, Whisper White and a touch of Lost Lagoon cardstock.

I coloured the flowers by using the light Rich Razzleberry Blendability and coloured about half of each leaf.  I then coloured the edges of each leave with the darkest Rich Razzleberry Blendability.  I then spritz the entire flower with the Isocol Alchohol which blended the colours together, while still leaving some of the lighter white areas in the flower.  I let them dry overnight before using.

Blendabilities #1

Hi everyone, I would like to share a card with you that I have made for this week's challenge at Retro Sketches

I have been playing with the Blendabilities, trying out techniques that I have learnt using Copic Markers to see how they went.

The flowers on my card have been made by covering a piece of Whisper White with Heat & Stick Powder, set with the heat gun and then the Dazzling Diamonds added.  I pressed the Dazzling Diamonds into the card piece to make sure that it was well adhered.  I then used the heat gun again to set the piece.

The flower image from the "Petite Petals" stamp set was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  I then commenced to colour using the Coastal Cabana Blendabilities Marker Assortment, starting with the darkest colour in the centre and working out to the lightest colour.  When you colour you only press the marker down to put the colour on the image, you do not colour in the usual manner.  The ink spreads quite well, and as you are only pressing the marker down lightly it will not damage the tip of your marker.  When you have finished colouring punch the image out with the Petite Petals punch.

I have used the new "Moonlight" DSP and colours of Basic Gray, Whisper White and Lost Lagoon.  Lost Lagoon is one of the new 2014-15 In-colours coming soon, so another sneak peak.  I have also used the new Lost Lagoon matching ribbon.

Sneak Peaks 2014-15 In-colours

Hi everyone, it was like Christmas in my house yesterday when my pre-order arrived for the 2014-15 Annual Catalogue.  I have fallen in love with the new Blackberry Bliss and Hello Honey colours and the Moonlight Designer Series Paper.

I made this card for a friend of mine using the Mojo Monday sketch for this week.

The DSP is from the new Moonlight Paper Pack and also the Neutrals Paper Stack.  Colour scheme of Blackberry Bliss, Sahara Sand, Hello Honey and Whisper White.  The flowers are from the "Flower Shop" stamp set, stamped with Blackberry Bliss, Sahara Sand and Hello Honey ink and punched out with the matching punch.  The sentiment is from the "Petite Pairs" stamp set.  A few rhinestones were added for a bit of bling.
